Many people deserve thanks for the successful completion of the repairs to the Bear River Canal in Placer County, and the board director of the local water agency has made sure to thank them.
The canal was damaged in a landslide in a remote canyon in April. Temporary repairs were made by PG&E by late May, and the water started flowing again in early June.
In a commentary in the Auburn Journal newspaper, Placer County Water Agency Board Chairman Lowell Jarvis extended his gratitude.
“Thankfully with the cooperation of PCWA’s customers, neighboring water districts, PCWA staff, the news media, PG&E, and the cool, wet weather, this potentially catastrophic water supply event ultimately had nominal adverse impacts,” Jarvis wrote.
He added: “It was remarkable how we all came together in this time of crisis to sustain water supplies to our tens of thousands of customers spread across a couple hundred miles of PCWA’s service area that stretches from Alta to far western Placer County.”
In thanking PG&E, Jarvis noted that the company “took seriously the gravity of the consequences of the water supply outage, and responded with swift action to replace the missing portion of the Bear River Canal. “ Also, he wrote, “PG&E has pledged financial assistance to PCWA to help mitigate some of the financial burdens that arose from the interruption of water supply deliveries from the Bear River Canal to PCWA and our customers.”
