PG&E continues to work to make repairs on the Bear River Canal in Placer County. The company has said it expects to complete a bypass by the first week of June and full repairs by the end of June. The company also is coordinating efforts with the Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) and the Nevada Irrigation District (NID) to provide water to residents and businesses.
Here are the most recent PG&E actions:
- PG&E reached agreements on Monday with the PCWA and the NID to offset incremental costs that those agencies have incurred since the canal break. For PCWA, PG&E will offset pumping costs estimated to total about $1.6 million. NID will receive about $100,000 to cover additional administrative costs.
- Yesterday, the company began pouring concrete, and poured 530 out of an expected total of 2,000 cubic yards of concrete.
- PG&E has completed the inspection of the length of the canal and is doing some repairs and other work unrelated to the slide damage. This work would have otherwise been done during the usual fall outage, and it will improve the overall canal system. That work will be done by the end of this week.
- Yesterday, PG&E delivered more than 320,000 gallons of water by truck to Lake Arthur. Those deliveries will continue seven days a week until the canal is restored. This location is downstream from the broken portion of the canal, and this water can be delivered to customers.
- The company is adding three additional trucks to put water into the PCWA’s Boardman canal, at the agency’s request.
- PG&E delivered water to the Gold Country Fairgrounds yesterday and will do so weekly.
